In the next few weeks, many of the local farmers markets will be opening – others won’t open until June.

Here is a list of the opening dates in May that I could find. If you know of anything I’ve missed, please leave a comment.

Camden County

Collingswood Farmers Market – Opening Saturday, May 2, 2009 and open every Saturday through the weekend before Thanksgiving. 8am – noon.

Gloucester City Farmers Market – Opening Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, 2009, this new market will be open every Sunday until November 22 at the Marina in Proprietor’s Park. 10am – 2pm.

Haddonfield Farmers Market
– Opening Saturday, May 2, 2009 and open every Saturday through the fall (unsure of exact last date). 8am – noon.

Salem County

Woodstown Farmers Market – The 2009 Woodstown Farmers’ Market begins May 8th, 2009 and will be held every Friday from 9am-2pm through October. Located along the railroad tracks in historic Woodstown, New Jersey, the 1st Annual Woodstown Farmers’ Market will feature Jersey Fresh produce grown by local farmers in the Salem County area.

I’ll do another post in a couple of weeks with all of the markets that will be opening in June.

Glad I found your blog! Great news about the markets opening this weekend.

A question for Robin or anyone else who knows: are there any organic farm stands out at the Berlin Market on the weekends? I’ve been meaning to go out there to check but if anyone’s got the inside scoop I’d like to know. Thanks.

Lisa – I’ll be there bright and early – 8 am if I can drag myself out of bed. I’m going to buy some asparagus and try a recipe for asparagus guacamole

Jumpinmuppet – welcome. I’ll look into the Berlin Market tonight and see what I can come up with.

I have been waiting for the Collingswood Farmer’s Market to open, well, since the last market in 2008!

Update: I asked around on my local freecycle blog, and got lots of good feedback about the freshness and price of the local produce at Berlin. Nobody seems to know if it’s organic, though, which leads me to think it isn’t. I tried emailing the market, but they directed me to call and I haven’t yet.

Grumble…I LOVE the Lacey farmer’s market- except it opens too late (end of June)and closes too early (every year they claim to be open into October and I find they’re gone by the end of Sept!)

Update: I went to Berlin Market this weekend, and nary a farmer or farm-good in sight. There was one produce place indoors, but it looked like what the grocery stores had. Maybe it’s too early in the season for local stuff? Guess I’m heading out to C’wood or H’field., though the Woodbury one (on Thursdays I think ) is starting up soon…

Correction to last post: Woodbury market doesn’t open til June 18.

Come to Haddonfield’s Farmers Market on Saturday mornings from 8:00-12:00, and you won’t be disappointed. Local farmers have fruits and vegetables, an organic specialty tomato farmer is there, too. Soaps. flowers, danishes, coffee — the Haddonfield Farmers Market has it all.
