best-of-nj-concert-series Some of my favorite things that happen around here each summer are the fabulous free concerts that Camden County hosts every year. Last year, the concert series won the Best of NJ concert series.  In the past I’ve seen Ollabelle, Dar Williams, Chuck Prophet and others – all artists I’d pay money to see, but didn’t have to (well I suppose my tax dollars helped to pay for them).

Tomorrow night starts the first of the concerts with Entrain at Haddon Lake Park in Haddon Heights – a fabulous venue. For a complete list of all the free concerts at various Camden County venues, click here.

These free concerts are the perfect occassion for packing a picnic dinner packed with local ingredients you’ve gotten from farmers markets, road side stands, or even the grocery store (many of them are picking up on the fact that local is big and labeling the produce that comes from local farms).

I’ve been reading in the news how many towns and counties are cutting their community events because of the recession. It looks like Camden County made their special events a priority this year and kept them the same as in years past. Since so many of us don’t have the extra cash to be going out to expensive activities at the moment, heading out to the these free concerts will show your appreciation to the CC Board of Freeholders for continuing the special events, and packing a local foods picnic will show your support to our regional farmers. Plus, you’ll get free, really great entertainment.

West Deptford Township also does concerts almost every Friday night at the Riverwinds Community Center. You can check out this link for a list of who will be playing.
