Vote for America’s favorite farmers markets

The American Farmland Trust is running a contest right now to find the most favorite farmers markets in the country. The on-line contest is a nation-wide challenge to see which of America’s 4,685 farmers markets can rally the most support from its customers. The goal is to promote the connection between fresh local food and the local farms and farmland that supply it.

At the end of the contest, one large, medium, and small farmers market will win the title of “America’s Favorite Farmers Market” for 2009. The reward will be a shipment of No Farms No Food® tote bags for the winning market managers to distribute to the shoppers that made it happen.

You can go to their website and search the interactive map to see if your favorite farmers market has been listed. If it hasn’t been, you can contact your farmers market’s manager to register the market to be eligible for voting.

Right now the only market in New Jersey that is registered is The Collingswood Farmers Market. You can vote for Collingswood, I know I will be, or you can work to get your favorite one registered. There are a lot of great ones in our regions – it would be fabulous for Jersey Fresh to get some national recognition.
