What do you know that I don’t?
We all have limited time and financial resources. As much as I’d love to be traveling around South Jersey investigating new sources of local foods, going to the fabulous tastings at our local wineries, and eating nightly at the restaurants that support our local agriculture, that’s just not my life. I do get to do those things often, but not nearly often enough to find all that is out there.
So I’m enlisting your help. What do you know about local foods that I don’t? Where do you get your local produce? Which wines from the local wineries do you love? Do you have a source for local meats – a year round source? What restaurants do you eat at that support local agriculture.
If you have sources that I haven’t written about here, I’d love for you to tell me about them in the comments. I’ll check them out.
Also, I’d like to start accepting guest posts on South Jersey Locavore. I can’t offer any monetary compensation, but you would be able to promote yourself through a short bio at the end of the post. I’d be happy to trade a guest post for your blog as compensation, too.
I’d really like to create a resource here so those who looking for local foods can find all that we have to offer here in South Jersey. If you can help me with that, I’d really appreciate it.

Hi Robin:
There are a lot of PYO fruit farms in South Jersey. My favorite so far is Mood’s Farm in Mullica Hill, which had the most delicious nectarines last year. They’ve got acres and acres of other fruits available too (blueberries, peaches, apples, even grapes). We noticed also that their prices for pre-picked fruit were quite good — sometimes even as cheap as PYO (but that was for end-of-season fruits that could probably no longer be picked without ladders).
Rowand Farms had great strawberries and cherries for PYO last year, but I was disappointed that you had to pay an entrance fee (!!!) to get into the PYO cherry orchards. I haven’t been there this year, though, so I can’t say if they’re still charging. It was only about $2 per person, I think, but it’s more the principle of the thing, esp. since they’re still charging per pound.
We grow nectarines in South Jersey? That is definitely something I didn’t know!
A fee to get into a pick your own field? That’s like charging to get in the grocery store doors! Silly.
