A fee to get into a pick your own field? That’s like charging to get in the grocery store doors! Silly.

There are a lot of PYO fruit farms in South Jersey. My favorite so far is Mood’s Farm in Mullica Hill, which had the most delicious nectarines last year. They’ve got acres and acres of other fruits available too (blueberries, peaches, apples, even grapes). We noticed also that their prices for pre-picked fruit were quite good — sometimes even as cheap as PYO (but that was for end-of-season fruits that could probably no longer be picked without ladders).

Rowand Farms had great strawberries and cherries for PYO last year, but I was disappointed that you had to pay an entrance fee (!!!) to get into the PYO cherry orchards. I haven’t been there this year, though, so I can’t say if they’re still charging. It was only about $2 per person, I think, but it’s more the principle of the thing, esp. since they’re still charging per pound.
