Jill and Stephen from the Sweet Life Bakery in Vineland
Jill McClennen and Steve Wilson own the Sweet Life Bakery in Vineland. I met them a few weeks ago, and I’ve got to say they are an impressive couple. They are committed to using local ingredients in their bakery items whenever possible. Recently, they worked with Assemblyman Matt Milam to get legislation that will allow bakeries to use the term “made with Jersey Fresh” to market their products. NBC 40 recently did a piece on the legislation and interviewed both Jill and Steve for the piece. If you click here and then click on the box above the story that says “video included” in red, you can view the news piece.

- Paradocx Vineyards in Chester County, PA has an A-Maize-ing Wine & Harvest Adventure that runs through November 1. I love it when wineries make it possible for kids to join in the fun. It’s a ”one-of-a-kind opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled, memorable outing with friends and family, all while supporting local agriculture. Every Saturday and Sunday, August 29th through November 1st, from 10:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m., Paradocx Vineyard and Schmidts’ Tree Farm will host an array of activities on Paradocx Vineyard’s 100-acre farm, featuring 15 varieties of premium estate grown wine available for purchase by the glass or bottle, a 5-acre corn maze, a “pick-your-own pumpkin patch,” hayrides through the vineyard, a pedal car track, children’s wagon train, reindeer antler toss, pumpkin sling shot and pumpkin bowling. On select weekends throughout the Fall, guests can enjoy live music and food from local caterers.”
- My seasonal recipe this week on MNN is Roasted Eggplant Soup. It seemed appropriate with the chillier weather this week to make some soup, and this recipe helped me use some of the eggplant and tomatoes that are still coming from my garden.
