A five pound burrito

I don’t know if Chef Mark from The Tortilla Press was able to get any local ingredients into this colossal burrito, but with all the other ways he supports local and practices sustainability, it’s okay. Last night my boys and I went to his restaurant to help him promote his new Monday night Build Your Own Burrito special – $12.95 that includes your custom burrito and one side.
In addition to the build your own special, he’s also created this 5 pound FAB Burrito that includes chicken, beef, pork & chorizo with cheese, rice beans, pico, pickled jalapenos & lettuce and topped with salsa, more cheese, guacamole & sour cream. We were there to eat it family style and so were John and Lisa (the ones who eat in South Jersey) with their kids. Each family was served their own 5 pound burrito! Who wants to come to my house tonight for leftovers? There’s about 3 pounds in my fridge right now.
Believe it or not, there were 5 individuals who had risen to the challenge to eat an entire burrito by themselves – 4 guys and one rather thin young woman. Guess who was the only one to finish the whole thing? That’s right. The young woman. Throughout this promotion, anyone who comes in and is able to single-handedly polish of the 5 pound burrito will get it for free.
While we were there Chef Mark was telling me about a waste program he’s co-ordinating so that local restaurants can get all of their kitchen scraps composted at one central location. There will be more information on that in the upcoming months, and I’ll have an interview with him when it comes to fruition. That’s one of the reasons I write so much about his restaurant on this blog – Chef Mark is always chipping away at making his operations more sustainable.
And hey, if a 5 pound burrito isn’t your thing, maybe having dinner with the farmers who grow your food is. From October 18th – 23rd, The Tortilla Press is celebrating America’s Favorite Farmers Market – Collingswood’s – and having a special chef’s table each night with different farmers from the market. You know, that burrito was even better at lunchtime today,LOL! No one is posting today- Lizzie isn’t sleeping (teething) and it turns out John has a sinus infection (I can’t believe he wanted to be out last night either). Greta to see you, though, and thanks for all the mention over the soup!

Without a doubt, the largest food item I have ever seen. Fascinating! And that young woman obviously has a hollow leg.
Cheers- Bethe
