Locavore odds and ends

I’ve been in Georgia most of the week for MNN so my personal blogs have been quiet all week. I’ll pick back up with regular posting next week. In the meantime, here are some links to what’s going on with South Jersey and local foods.

  • Natali Vineyards in Cape May will be having its Oktoberfest celebration on October 17th. Sway to the music of blues legend Geno White, take a wine tour, and savor their award winning wines. Artisans and food vendors will be selling their wares. Join us from Noon to 5PM.
If you go make sure to give their Cedar Hammock, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, a try. It was one of my favorites at the Jersey Fresh Food & Wine Festival.
  • Haddon Avenue in Collingswood, home to lots of fabulous restaurants that support local farmers (including my favorite Tortilla Press) has been named one of American Planning Association’s Great Streets in America. We don’t need anyone to tell us how great Collingswood’s main street is, but it’s nice that someone told the rest of the country.
  • My seasonal recipes on MNN for the month of October are all going to be soups. Last week, I put up my favorite Minestrone with zucchnini, spinach and other veggies that are still at the farmers market. This week, since I was away and didn’t have the chance to cook, Eating in South Jersey with John and Lisa’s Lisa allowed me to post the potato leak soup she made earlier in the week. She, of course, had a picture of it to provide for me as any good foodie blogger would.

Sorry for the short list this week. I gotta go take care of some housework that didn’t get done because I was away.

Have a fabulous weekend!
