Locavore odds and ends

Ah, another rainy Saturday. Here a few things to check out as you’re waiting for the rain to stop.

  • I can’t believe I didn’t mention this weeks ago. I interviewed South Jersey foodie Tracey Wilson early this month for a piece on MNN about cowpooling. Her family pooled their money together with some other poeple and bought 1/4 of a cow. Tracey has recently started her own food blog called Jerseygator’s, and I’ve been enjoying reading about her adventures with her new pressure cooker.
  • One of our new vineyards in South Jersey, Hawk Haven in the Cape May area, will have it’s first “Eat Local; Drink Local” small-plate dinner on November 6, 2009 from 7-10pm in the Hawk Haven tasting room. Reservations required. $50 per person. For more info, visit their blog.
  • South Jersey Culinary Events will host another Off The Hook week where participating restaurants will feature New Jersey seafood. The event runs from November 16 – 19 and participating restaurants are listed on their site.
  • My MNN seasonal recipe this week was a baked beef stew. I used stew meat from Hillsacres Pride that I got at the Collingswood Farmers market and lots of the veggies came from there, too. The stew was really good. In the upcoming weeks, I’ll be doing several cranberry recipes and I hope to try my hand at pumpkin soup.

Seems like a fairly slow local food week. If I missed something, leave it the comments.
