Locavore odds and ends
2009 December 4
- I am really looking forward to next Thursday’s tweetup at The Tortilla Press. Judging by who has replied on Twtvite, I’ll be meeting many new people. And hey, for those of you who have seen me all over the place without my better half, he’s actually planning on going to the tweetup, too. Yes, my husband really does exist. There’s still time to sign up for the tweetup. Just click here.
- I was honored to be named one of the Top 20 Real Food Advocates to Follow on Twitter by care2. I’m #17!
- There are lots of activities, concerts, tastings, and holiday deals going on at many of our state’s fabulous wineries. You can visit the Garden State Wine Growers Association website to find a list of all that’s happening.
- The farmers markets might be closed for the season (sigh) but some of our farm markets are still open. Around me, Springdale Farms will be open for a few more weeks. They are having some activities for the kids this weekend – Santa will be there (bring your own camera), holiday cooking decorating, and other things – $10/child. What’s still open in your neck of the woods?
- Several of our local, independent restaurants are giving really great deals on their gift cards this season. John and Lisa compiled a list of them in two posts – here and here. Many of the restaurants are giving a few extra dollars with each gift certificate purchase. I don’t know how long the deals last – some may be over by now.
- The New York Times did a piece on locavores that is worth a look. It’s about urban locavores who are taking hunting classes so they can eat the free range meat roaming close by.
Have a great weekend!
