Local food at the grocery store

I was bombarded with signs for local food at the Cherry Hill Wegmans yesterday. The scallops sign was outside the store and the other two were very prominently displayed as soon as I entered the store.

Scallops from off the Jersey Coast - According to Seafood Watch, they're a sustainable choice.

Local strawberries - not sure what farm they are from or if they are all from the same farm.

Asparagus from Sorbello & Wheeler farms in Sweedsboro.

Looks like grocery stores, or at least Wegmans, are beginning to recognize that local is important to people. What are you seeing pop up at your local stores?

Comments

  1. Zallie’s Shop Rite in Berlin sells fresh from Stella Farm in Berlin. Right now they have fresh strawberries.

  2. Well that’s timely. Someone at the baseball fields tonight had Stella’s strawberries that she had gotten from the farmstand. They were so good. I was wondering if Stella’s sold in any stores. Then I get home and find this comment. Thanks.
