Wine or beer this weekend – it’s your choice.
Wine

Don't you want to walk through this vineyard. Well, this one is in Georgia so you probably can't, but we have equally as beautiful vineyards here in New Jersey.
The Garden State Wine Growers Association is hosting its annual Walk in the Vineyard Wine Trail this weekend, July 17 & 18. Follow one of New Jersey’s wine trails. Wine tastings and vineyard tours (often with the winemakers) are being offered at most of the state’s wineries. You can visit your favorite winery’s website to see what special events it has for this yearly event.
While you are traveling from winery to winery, make sure to pick up a 2010 Wine Passport at your first stop. If you can manage to get it stamped at every single winery throughout the next year, you could win a trip to Italy. Here’s a little secret. Last year when I was at the Jersey Fresh Food & Wine Festival, I won two free stamps in my passport. If you’re serious about trying to get to all the wineries in a year (a goal of mine that I know I won’t accomplish until my boys are much older), and you attend the festival this year (August 14 & 15 at Heritage Vineyards in Mullica Hill), check to see if they have any contests like that again.
Speaking of our state’s great wineries, I had the opportunity to spend a day at Cape May Winery earlier this week to attend the filming of a new TV show that will highlight some of the “don’t miss” activities in our state. I’ll have more about that for you next week.
Beer
The Pour House in Westmont will hold its 2nd Annual Pour-a-Palooza featuring over 20 local and national craft breweries. Brian and I went to the festival last year where I discovered that I do not like IPA’s, but I had a good time anyway. I learned a lot about beer. I didn’t know that some people cellar beer the way you would cellar wines. We also came home with quite a bit of swag – some t-shirts, several beer glasses, coasters and bottle openers. The Pour House thinks they will sell out of tickets, so if you’re interested in attending, you should order your tickets very soon online.
The Pour House regularly features beers from local breweries.
