Blogging out hunger: Helping the FoodBank of New Jersey

I’m joining Jersey Bites and dozens of other New Jersey bloggers in the 2nd Blogging Out Hunger campaign to help raise awareness and donations for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. The campaign is to bring attention to the FoodBank’s Check out Hunger drive that is happening now through December. You’ve seen the little tickets at the grocery check out all the time. The cashier will ask if you want to donate $1 – 5 to help fight hunger.
Last year, the Check out Hunger drive raised over $2 million to help feed the over 850,000 New Jersey residents that rely on the food bank anually.
I know that times are still tight for many of us. I understand. But if you can donate just $1 the next time you’re at the checkout counter, the FoodBank can use that $1 to do a lot of good.
Suspicious that more of your money will end up in the pockets of administrators instead of in the mouths of the hungry? The tickets say that every dollar you donate goes to feed the hungry. Still, if you’d rather donate food than donate money, look around for an opportunity to do that instead. Churches, schools, and communities are holding holiday food drives right now. You can also go to Feeding America to find a Food Bank that will accept your donations.
