Forget hitting the malls this weekend. They’re going to be crazy and make you cranky. Instead, hit the New Jersey wine trail. The Holiday Wine Trail takes place Friday – Sunday, November 23 – 25, 2012. Participating wineries have special tastings and events planned. Some of the tastings are complimentary and some are a small fee (usually $5-$10). You can get a lot of holiday shopping done, too. Wine makes great gifts, and many of the wineries have gift shops that sell more than wine.
If you want to visit several wineries in one day, try one of the designated New Jersey wine trails. There are six different trails that have been created based on the proximity of wineries to each other. If you click on the “view map” option of a trail, you’ll get the milage and driving time between each winery, a big help in assisting you in planning your day.
Of course, you don’t have to wait for the weekend to visit winery. Many of them are open today and tomorrow so you can pick up local wines for your Thanksgiving feast. If you bought the local, free range turkey, and you stopped by the farmers market last Saturday for all your vegetables from local farmers, shouldn’t you have some local wine on your Thanksgiving table, too?
